Blanes’08 Yngling Women European Championship

The European Women Championship that will take place on the 30th of March was presented at Club Vela Blanes today.

 

Josep Saguer the Sports delegate of the Catalan government placed a high value on the international event that will be sailed in Cataluña. He especially noted the Olympic sailors who will be in Pekin who will also be present in the Bay of Blanes, which has consolidated its position as a reference in Cataluña and Spain.

 

There are a total of 21 teams registered. The two Spanish Teams are Monica Azon, Sandra Azon and Graciela Pisonero and Sylvia Roca, Eva Gonzalez and Lara Cacabelos. The World Champions  skippered by the Brit Sara Ayton ,the Austrailian team of Weir/Webb/Wilson and the German Team of  Iruke Schuemann, Julia Bleck and Ute Hoepfner will also be competing.

 

Of the 21 teams 15 are European and six from other continents. France, Russia, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, China, USA, South Africa; Australia and Canada will also be represented.

 

A Very International  European

 

Anselm Ramos the Lieutenant Mayor and Sports Counsellor of the city of Blanes pointed out that city is proud to have a yacht club that is a model for the rest of Cataluña, as a host for international and national regattas.

 

The Catalan Federation was represented by Augusti Blanch who noted that sailing is in the center of activities of the club and as a former member remembered that from the docks of Club Vela  Blanes  Snipes, Dragons, Solings,  Stars, Optimists and many of the actual classes have all taken to the water and The Yngling was needed to complete the list.

 

Oriol Subira club Comadore detailed the racing program and highlighted the participation of all of the Ynglings that are getting ready for the Peking Olympics and of the Medal Race format for the top 10 boats.

 

Finally the club president, Amadeu  Nualart  stated that  regatta hosting is a tradition at the club and looks forward to the arrival of the sailors.
